Silver Grill Catering Hepatitis A Outbreak

In October and November of 2005, the number of confirmed hepatitis A infections in Los Angeles County increased to four times the number confirmed in 2004. Public health officials investigating the source of the apparent hepatitis A outbreak learned that several cast and crew members from the movie set of “The Good German” were ill with hepatitis A, and ultimately identified food served by Silver Grill Location Catering Inc on October 3 as the source of the outbreak.

Investigators from the Los Angeles County Public Health Division and the California Department of Health conducted a case-control study and concluded that lettuce provided to Silver Grill by Soleil Produce was the likely source of the outbreak.
